Most people my age and younger will probably know Running on Empty from the movie, Forrest Gump. If I’m honest, that’s probably where I heard it first, too. No matter.
To me this is not only a nice, uplifting tune, but it also makes me think about what I’ve done and, more importantly, what I still have to do. How will I be remembered? The years are ticking by my friends. We’re all mortal. Best get on and do some great work.
Even though I’ve listened to it many, many times this piece of music always makes me stop and think a bit. Thinking’s one of the most important things you can do. People could do with doing a lot more of it these days. I mean, the Americans are likely to return Obama to the White House this November. They need to do a bit of thinking. Maybe Jackson Browne could help them out too.
